The Street

The universe, Milky Way, the solar system, what solar system? Our solar system, the earth, North America, the United States, New York, New York City, Queens, Long Island City, Thomson Avenue and Van Dam street, asphalt concrete, cement concrete, unbound granular materials, soils, geo-composites. No, that is too close, zoom out a bit; a little more. There.

A cement forest, rivers of cars forming deltas everywhere. Zoom in a little more. There. The street. Colorful arrays of cars flooded by blue, yellow, black, silver, gold, silver, yellow, black, red, blue, yellow, blue, black, silver, yellow and yellow again colors. All these colorful streams strive to get on top and be first in their journey down that river. Red light, everything silences. The street stays firm, getting ready for the stream to start over. Engines growling.

The pavement, the concrete, everyday either suffering the heat, the sun, the cold, the rain, the temperature bringing the street apart or getting it all together. The street suffers from pot-hole disease. The street is an organism to interact with the system. The system is the city. The buildings, the apartment, the cars, the streets, are all organisms working for the urban system.

You hear the footsteps of people walking: doop doop doop doop. An interaction of the organism with its surrounding. Making sounds, bringing attention to the noise around. The cars honking, the cars bumping in the potholes, the sudden noises, the cars stopping. All the sounds gather in an orchestra of strings creating the surrounding environment of the street.
